I am changing the clutch in my 1999 dodge ram 1500 v6 5 speed, trans is off along with pressure plate clutch and flywheel. I cant get the pilot bearing out of my crank, antone know any tricks??

 

Pack it with wheel bearing grease, get a bolt/rod/whathaveyou that is VERY close to the same diameter as the shaft that fits in there, stick it in the hole, and whack it with a hammer. Pops it right out.

 

on a ford 390 i would fill it up with grease and hammer a rod that would fit tight in the bearing, pull it out and then add more grease and hammer away. the grease will eventually push the bearing out. messy i know but it was how i learned from an ole timer that had been working on cars his whole life.

i just did a clutch in my buddies 94 Nissan 4x4 (i know its not a Dodge, but same basic thing)...i loaded it with grease, and stuck two small screwdrivers in, each facing a different way so it could grip, then i slowly worked it out...manuevered the screwdrivers to act as a type of "prybar", and i just pushed the ends, rotate a little and repeat.

You may be able to rent a pilot bearing puller at an auto parts store. If you've got one on hand when you need it, it's quicker, easier, and a lot cleaner. But the grease trick works well, too.
