some terms im not familiar with: WOT (wide open throttle?) and air horns?

ive been interested in this 14x3 setup, IMO it looks better than the lame setup with all this excessive hard tubing from the fender well to the TB.
You take that little hose out and replace it with a little breather filter, like this (This is the one I have):
http://www.jegs.com/i/Edelbrock/350/...0002/-1?CT=999
It goes in the valve cover.

im not gonna be messing with the TB if i did the 14x3. just like you said, its not a race car.

what about the hose that originally connected to the top of the air filter housing?
Some of the 14/3 bottom plates will have a fitting on the bottom.... gotta be REAL careful there though, as it is possible you won't find one that will fit right, and the fitting will interfere with some linkage or other.... or, it just plain won't fit. You could pick up some assorted pipe parts, scout around for a good place to blow a hole thru the bottom plate, put in appropriate pipe parts, and run the line to that.

I think the line your are referring to is the 'intake' side of the crankcase ventilation? If that is indeed the case, just putting one of the filtered caps in the hole would work. It NEEDS to be able to draw air, and you WANT the PCV system working as it should. Helps keep nasty crap out of your oil, and helps the rings seal better.

The Edelbrock air-cleaners actually come with 90 degree elbows for this very purpose. I went this route.

When i read about the 14x3 it's not for me.(even though i've contiplated it myself) not like your gonna get launch off the line performance, its a "air cleaner" for ****s sake, yeah claims here and there, but for the offroaders/hunters(like myself) they dirty/water log up faster than the stocker. so to each his won. waste of time and not enough to gain from it..noise doesnt equal HP.........IMO..

You are absolutely correct, for what you are using your truck for, the stock air box is perfect. For others, it is a good mod, as it does provide a bit more get up and go from 2500rpm on up.

truegent- That is how the majority of us made a connector rod, and that is how I would do it, less restriction and just as effective as the Dakota stud.

If your going to spend money on an air filter with expectations of actually seeing a noticeable performance gain then at least get one of these. http://www.ramairbox.com/index.html

Ram airs are proven technology whereas most of the cold air intakes etc have been shown to offer little at best and often even negative gains at worst.

Hell with my jacked up 4X4 wind sail I'm probably pushing 2-3 atmospheres in fronnt of the grill at 60MPH. One of these would be like adding a no friction blower with those air pressures. lol
