1997 dodge ram brake upgrade
The rubber lines will expand when you step on the brake, so, you are wasting pedal effort/hydraulic pressure to blow the lines up like balloons. The SS lines DON'T do that, giving you much better pedal feel, and more effective brakes.
That's about as good as it gets...... might be able to do something with balancing (front/rear) but, that's a pain, and changes with the weather, or, what you have in the bed.
so its really an issue of ABS, something our trucks werent particularly blessed with from the factory?
if thats the case why would anyone buy disc conversion? i can lock up the rears fairly easy and will be switching back to stockers when i get around to it. i dont think the rear is where im lacking, so ill give it a go up front with SS lines and 2500 calipers and see what happens.

Disk brakes are MUCH easier to maintain, and a lot less complicated. They can be more effective as well, but, in the rear, it isn't as much of a factor as the front.... Fronts to 70% of your braking. (roughly) Anything you can do to improve that, will certainly help.
Yeah, the RWAL on these trucks is pretty flipping worthless.
I don't know that mine does a thing.... At all.....

yea the 1ton upgrade is pretty INEFFECTIVE to say the least, it REALLY sucks to hit the brakes hard and get that feeling that at any moment the rears are going to lock up, which they will if your not careful.
im hoping to be impressed with a few upgrades upfront, while returning the rear to stock. i have noticed though, with a few hundred punds in the bed, they wont lock up, BUT since i dont regularly haul or tow, they're DOWNRIGHT DANGEROUS!

My truck is the same way. (3/4 ton truck..) The rear brakes are VERY touchy when unloaded..... put a couple thousand pounds of weight in the bed though.... and wow.... major difference. Rides better too......
well decided nows just as good a time as any to put stock cylinders back on.
stopping power is noticeably diminshed, HOWEVER, i can stomp the pedal as hard as i can and the rears dont lock up-PERIOD! with the 1 tons there was a VERY FINE LINE b/w braking hard and locking the rears, with that said you can only guess what that "LINE" is, and when your in a situation where you REALLY need those brakes, you arent thinking about that FINE LINE, your STOMPING THE BRAKES as hard as you can, and in those situations the 1 tons FAIL!

You should be able to lock them in any event, even with the stockers. (unless you have big tires.....) If you have oversize tires, the calipers and lines will be a noticeable improvement.
