Tighten your front band adjustment to 2 or 1 7/8 turn.

Thanks for all the replies fellas, What's the TV cable look like and how do I adjust it?

Matty- I'll check that cable real quick, The lever with the spring on the left side of the transmission right next to the front band adjustment seems to spring forward all the way, I used Valvoline ATF+4. Torque wrench is a USA-made calibrated Utica.

Monte- How will I know if I've adjusted it in too tight? Should I retorque to 72inlbs, or can I just turn the adjuster in?

Thanks for all your help, you guys are life savers.

Okay, I checked the cables @ the TB, The throttle cable comes in from the front, the cable coming in from the rear has a tiny bit of hesitation after the throttle starts moving, there's a third cable running parallel to the throttle cable that doesn't appear to be doing anything- what is this cable for? Is the cable coming in from the rear the TV cable?

rear is the TV cable,
Two from the front are accelerator and cruise control.

Do what MonteC says.

the cable next to the throttle body cable is your cruise control and if its like mine its rusted and no longer functions. the cable coming from the trans is indeed the tv cable. if there is no play in the shift lever on the trans and it springs back all the way when u push it towrds the rear of the truk then the tv cable needs adjusting, because there shuld be no hesitation at all. to adjust it verify that the the shift lever on the trans is all the way towards the front of the truck. pull the tv cable off the mounting stud and push the lock button on the side of the cablle. push the cable in until it is centered perfectly over the stud and then press it down onto the stud. b4 doing this be absolutely sure that the shift lever on the trans has NO play and springs all the way back!!!

By shift lever, do you mean the actual shift lever for the column shifter or the lever the TV cable is hooked to? What exactly does the TV cable do? Oh, the fluid I drained out was darkish.

Check both ends of the TV cable for free movement.

It tells the trans how hard you are stepping on the gas, and it modulates shift pressures accordingly.

Thanks,HeyYou, The end of the cable that hooks on to the throttlebody had quite a bit of play, I grabbed it and the plastic end broke. I wonder how much a new cable is?
