well I guess I'm confused now!! I have the 1996 Ram 1500, but i ordered the heater treater part and have it here.. From reading these threads I take it the 96 Ram doesn't use an electric motor, but a cable, so I don't even need to use this part..?? I looked for the motor today and unless its covered in plastic, I don't see it... So does the 1996 have motor, or cable..? Thanks!

 

96 has a cable, no electric motor.

 

Could someone tell me if the 97 1500 5.9l has the cable or electric motor? Me and my wife just bought this truck and the heat is not working correctly. I am gonna flush the heater core today to see if there is a blockage anywhere. Gonna change the thermostat Monday when i have a day off. Thanks for any help that you can provide.

 

Look under the dash, passenger side, near the trans tunnel. If you have the electric actuator, you should be able to see it. Or, if it is cable operated, only thing you will see is the bottom of the blend door shaft sticking out an eight of an inch or so.

 

It's a cable thru 98.

 

Well I have tried everything I know to try. Bought a flushing kit yesterday. Flushed the system. Seemed to have helped a little. Had a little better heat. So I figured that the radiator stop leak that who ever owned the truck before me had put in the radiator had stopped the heater core up. So I flushed the system with the flush kit that is suppose to remove all the gunk that builds up. Heat still isnt hot thought. Talked to a mechanic tonight that told me that if both heater hoses on the firewall are hot then it is not a heater core problem. That I should check the flap(sorry dont know what it is actually called) and see if its closing and opening. I have never done this kind of thing before so dont know what to expect yet. Probably gonna have to remove the whole dash just to replace parts if that is what the problem is. Cant seem to understand how a little flap could be causing all this problem though.

 

Turn you temp control **** from one side to the other, you should hear the door thump shut at both extremes. (yours is cable operated by the way.) There is an adjustment procedure for it, that you can do from the drivers seat. Posted by zman, or j415. Do a search, should be able to come up with it.

 

I tried To adj. My control on my 95 ram and my **** don't just pull out. It comes right off?

 

The cable adjustment referred to is out of the 98 FSM. It's entirely possible that Dodge changed things through the years and is not an available option as a fix/adjustment on a 95.
