Mine ended up clearing up after I cleaned and reinstalled the original injectors with a and changed the oil and added engine restore... I noticed that my #1 and #3 plugs were wet with fuel but not black a sooty like the others when I ran the other bosch 703 injectors that were causing it to run soo rich....
I had a cracked header that I replaced but i still misfired after that..
It runs great now.... I wish I knew exactly what fixed it.... maybe my compression was low on that #1 cylinder and the high mileage with the engine restore helped bring it up I honestly dont know...I did a leakdown test on #1 and 3 cylinders and they help pressure fine?

idno if im just beating a dead horse here, but a couple months back, #6 popped up (had to get a waiver for the emissions anyways so got me a compression test done) either way, it came up low (45). about a month later #8 showed up the next day i did an oil change with mobile 1 syn and some of that restore. #8 hasnt showed up since and #6 comes and goes for a week or a few days at a time. if i drive aggressive it seems to come quicker though haha. im just kinda curious if that is normal or anyone else with an experience like that?

If you had a cylinder at 45 pounds..... need to find out WHY it is so low. You either have a bad valve, or, bad rings.

well thats what i figured that it was either a bad valve or ring. so i was just gonna drive it till it died, pull a motor with good compression, live life but with it coming back to turn off the check engine light like that it has me wondering. cant really tear it down either since it is my only driver. when i did the headers last weekend i did see that the top of the valve where cly 6 is had some slight rust, not totally sure what that means but i know it shouldnt be like that.

also, zman, are you trying to hint that i have a blown plenum? possibility, but i have no signs of it, and when i look down the tb i dont see a pool of oil, just random blotches of what looks to be hardened oil/grease stuff. haha sorry for the poor explanations.

It's a pretty common spot for the gasket to blow out. You need to remove the TB and inspect with a small mirror and flashlight. Also the pcv hose is right there. Could be just a valve with bad carbon buildup from the oil.

Plenum won't have much to do with compression. Two separate issues. Now, the blown plenum may have caused the valves to get carboned up, so they aren't sealing properly..... but, that's a pretty forlorn hope. More like is bad rings, or cracked valve seats.

It's worth a look. My 98 had the same #5 miss. I fixed the plenum, then Seafoamed the intake and used a lot of Techron plus for a while, and the miss finally went away.
