performance gains?
i have a question about putting a 14x3 breather on my 98 4x4 5.9....what would i gain from doin that? what would i do with the breather hose and wouldnt that suck in hot air i always thought the colder the air the better? im kinda new and i was just curious...and im looking to do some mods but im not sure what to do

Well, there are benefits, and there are drawbacks. With the round air cleaner, yep, the engine is able to draw more air, but, that air is also nicely heated by the engine...... is it better than the stock system? Probably. Will you notice a difference? Probably not. After all, the stock system also draws air in from the engine compartment, albeit, up in the front passenger side corner......

ok thanks guys i will probly just buy a CAI then...im just looking to get more mpg as i drive on the highway alot...i figured im getting around 10mpg cruising at 75 most of the time with 285s and no muffler...what could i get to improve te mpg and gain some power? ive been reading around here and it seems like a tuner does te most? what about exhaust?

Yes, the tuner and upgrading the exhaust are important steps for power. 9 outta 10 people on this forum (including myself) would recommend you to get the SCT Tuner from Hemifever for $375 (custom tunes) or $275 (canned tunes). Everyone here that has one only have good things to say about it and they are well worth the money. As far as upgrading the exhaust, the biggest power gain you will get outta that would be to upgrade the exhaust manifolds (headers), also to add a single inlet upgraded muffler out to dual exhaust (more affordable than true duals). You will gain alot of torque for upgrading those two together.
I put in a Hypertech Programmer and a Flowmaster 44 muffler out to dual exhaust and my truck dyno tested at 387 ft lb of torque @ 2250 RPMS. Thats a gain of 57 ft lb of toque! Just off of programmer and upgraded exhaust. So these are great places to start. I also highly recommend putting in dual electric fans in place of the old inefficient fan clutch to gain more HP (7-12) at the crank, gain upto 2 MPG, colder A/C, and better throttle response for only $300 @ FFDynamics.com
Hope this helps!

I was checking out Black Betty and some of her Mods... Looking Sweet!!!! I would love to see some photos of your dual electric fan install. Plus I love the subtle changes you did to the front end. Bumper guards, Chrome grill and changing from the gray to black on the bumper. What product did you use to do that???
