Default Rough Idle

I have a 2001 dodge ram 5.2 1500 that has this weird idle goin on. It doesnt sound like a lifter or rod its just a ruff idle. It will do it up until about 15mph then its fine. The weirdest part is you can here it a lot louder inside the truck then outside. I dont know whats goin on but any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

Yes I have a check engine light on but thats only been on there for about a week. Its been running rough for at least 2 or 3 months and it does it in park and drive. Also at about 65 mph the rpm's will shoot up about 200rpms randomly then go back to normal.

I wonder if it mite be a EGR valve or something like that. Theres no metal hitting metal sound.

My bet is a bad TPS. TPS can mess with the idle, and when at high speeds (especially if using cruise control) your RPMs randomly jumping up and down about like yours are also tells me TPS. If the voltage from the TPS gets out-of-spec enough, it will trigger a code from the PCM.

Get that code checked out at O'Reillys, Advance, or etc., anyone who will read it for free.

i went to autozone and they said the check engine light means that there is a small leak allowing gas fumes to escape. we checked the pvc valve and it seems to be alright. i kinda wonder if its the EGR valve but thats 60 bucks. so before i buy that does anybody have any suggestions? thank you

gas fumes are EVAP system. Could be as simple as the gas cap not being on tight.

What code specifically did you get? Have them tell you and we can diagnose it a little better.
