Default Hi all new guy here with some questions

Hey guys new here to this site. So I just paid off my 2001 Ram 1500 quad cab 5.9L 4x4. It only has 71k mi, has the sport and off road package. Questions are this and sorry if they have been asked before I have been searching this site and seeing multiple answers for the same thing. First off does the sport and/or offroad package come with a lift? I have researched and found anywhere from a 1.5" to 3". My buddy went under my truck and said there was no lift on it, I am running 33x12.50's with still plenty of room I am confident with a leveling kit I could easily slap 35's. However I am looking for a 4-6" lift to put in my truck and they all say will not fit the off-road package? Can someone tell me what is different with this package?, I found another thread on here that linked my to a 4 wheel mag site with info on the off road package stating it has an lsd rear end? I am prettty sure mine has an open diff at least it feels that way but putting it in 4x4 it spins like posi in there rear, how can I tell if this thing has the stock diff in it? Thank you!!!!!!!!!! Sorry for all the questions

welcome to the DF! good snag on the truck. the off road edition sat i think (someone correct me if im wrong) 2 inches higher form the factory. and yes you have an limited slip diff if its stock.

Thanks sk8erdude nice to meet you. Ok awesome is there some kind of marking on the diff to tell me if its still the stock one? I looked on the dff there is no stickers or anything but a very small metal tab connected to one of the bolts on the diff that says 4.10 which I assume is telling me I have the 4.10 gears

Yes. The off-road editions have a factory 1.5-2" lift. They also have 4.10 gears with gussets to make the dana 44 stronger. They came with 17" off road rims. Not sure what else they had.

Welcome to the forum. This site is full of information for our trucks. If you ever have problems people on here can help.

I believe you can buy any lift for the 94-01 dodge ram 1500 4x4's but since you have the offroad you will have less lift because you have taller stock rear blocks and bigger front coils. So if you order a 5" lift...expect to only get 3-3.5" of lift compared to the stock offroad ram. You could get a 2" leveling kit and should be able to clear some 35's

Sweet ok thanks zj3400ex. I know that i have the 4.10 gears and the 17" wheels. From my research it seems like I have everything that the offroad package should have, diff gears, wheels, tow hooks, live front axle, higher ride height, fog lamps. I must have the lsd then. So how does your trucks handle in the snow and ice while still in 2wd? Maybe its just me it seems like my truck slides around ALOT when in slippery situations lol this being the reason I thought I had an open diff. Also the lift situation, any of you guys have an aftermarket lift on your off road edition? Where is the bast place to look since they all say will not fit?

My truck likes to slide around. I've been sideways in snow a few times. Now that I put 33x12.50 tires on the truck it spins easily when my driveway is icy.

For the lift...check out http://www.topguncustomz.com/
Since you have the off-road. You have taller rear blocks. So if you get a bigger lift...I would make sure you get add a leafs instead of a block to stack on your stocker. Just my opinion. Give top gun a call...they are very helpful

Cool thanks man. My brother in law suggested top gun as well he bought a lift for his jeep from them as well as several of his buddies who all seem very pleased. I have already contacted them albeit through email I will probably give them a call too and see what they can do for me. I have also been thinking the add a leaf would be the better way to go as well. So does putting it in 4wd do anything to the LSD like make it tighter or anything? Seems to lock up rather quick while in 4wd which is why I thought it had a locker

Ok so I have another one for ya. My CEL has been on since not too long after I bought the truck. I am a mechanic and as such have a nice scanner, it gives me p0455 and p0442 Evaporative Emissions Control System leak (Gross Leak) and (small leak), now I have checked around for obvious vaccum leaks and can find none. If any of you have some ideas that I can check would be greatly appreciated
