Default quad 4x4 axle seal kit- found everything but petroleum jelly?

I cant find petroleum jelly in any auto stores, can i just use vaseline that says 100% petroleum jelly- to lube the output shaft bearing?

Dude! Why do keep starting a new thread every time you have a question about the same subject? Just put some bearing grease on it! And btw, you won't find vaseline in an auto parts store, go to CVS.

I didn't say that, and I would not do it.

not unless its already damaged in some way and you're making it better.
if its in good shape (shiney and smooth), don't mess with it.

how does it look? is is scarred or gouged like your first mechanic said, or was he full of ****?

like zman said, for lube, just use grease. and LIFT the axle over the seal from the inside. don't just shove it in from the outside.

test the fit of the collar over the splines of both axle halves. there will never be a better time to do this than right now.

if the fit is not super smooth, check the axle spline and collar splines for wear or burrs. wear is ok, but you want a nice smooth slide and no bind or tightness. you can remove burrs with a hand file. don't be afraid to remove burrs that are not supposed to be there - this can require a lot of filing...

ok shes all taken apart, heres what ive found-

the sealing surface on the shaft seems to have little microscopic pits in a lina around it where the seal was riding and further towards the outside has little tiny pits in it. but right after where the seal rides there are no pits at all its perfect, so should i move the seal a little inward or will these little tiny pits affect it or what? i did notice that that the rubber lip on the seal was in perfect condition, but the metal part was kind of gouged from whatever my mechanic used to seat the seal.

the u-joint didnt seem to have any play, but i decided to go at it anyhow and have got absolutely NOWHERE with it

all splines are in pristine condition

the output shaft support bushing is actually a metal bearing with rollers in it, whereas the one quad4x4 gave me is a plastic bushing, whats up with that?

You could clean the shaft up a bit with a 3m green scotch pad. And I would seat the seal all the way in. If you try to leave it in a little, it might not be straight and will wear rapidly. Make sure you clean the housing good, so it seats properly. If the ujoints are good, then don't F with them now.
