Default DIY Fan Pully Holder (CHEAP!)

Made this a while back and never spread the word about it. I needed a fan pulley holder so I could get the clutch fan off of my 5.9 Ram. I had some 1/4" bar laying around so I got creative. Works really well! Here's some pics:

Just cut and bend as such:

And, with the belt off, hook it into the alternator bracket opening and then insert the other end into one of the fan pulley holes. Then crank away!

Can't remember how much the bar stock cost, but it was really cheap. Can be found at Lowes/HD.

That wont hold my efans

My 96 has bolt on water pump pulley so that wont work on early model years if still running oem water pump.
This is what I used to remove my viscous clutched fan.
Its fairly long so better leverage.

Rested the bar ontop of the fan/nut & notch under bolt on far side.
Held bar while unlocking fan.
Bit tricky but worked

Good stuff to know since I am getting ready to do mine. A friend of mine suggested loosening the bolt while the belt is still on... to help. Assuming I am smart enough (I think I am) to not (manually) crank the engine while trying this, any reason not to try this first?

Worth a shot. Worst that can happen is the pulley slips on the belt. No big deal.
