viper motor swap
Hello all i have a 98 dodge ram 1500 with the v8 magnum. I recently purchased the truck for 500 bucks. Now i'm wanting to find a wrecked ram srt 10 and basically swap the powertrain over to the older ram, any info, advice, or knowledge as to if this is even possible or how hard this will be is greatly appreciated.

Great Idea! Good Luck finding a SRT10 in a junkyard for cheap though.
Honestly, your better off geting a nice cam and some shiny new heads. You will get plenty of power from that and it won't be too expensive either. Alot more realistic then the SRT10 conversion too, unless you work in or own a custom fabrication/race shop...

Cant run 46re with Viper 10
Need custom drive shaft due to length of V10, may not mount same as truck V10
Fuel system & harness/computer needed also
500hp min from Magnum (what I used)
Flexalite efans
MSD coil/dig6 (could go analogue box)
Fastman 52tb (home port would flow less/may restrict hp)
M1/2BBL (kegger will tend to leak w/boost)
Mopar RT+10 cam (should of adv 4*)
Crower 1.7rr
MP lifters & 600 springs, retainers
Eddy TES hdrs, ypipe
Magnaflow 3" cat & 3" muff
Procharger D-1SC w/3.5" pulley (7psi@4900rpm) & 3core
AM boost/vac, fuel pressure, wideband o2/af gauges needed
That was about 510hp roughly 390-400rw
That was also with a stock computer, my MP PCM & SMT6 combo had issues with.
If I had of found the issue probably would of made 550hp
SCT tuner would of been the way to go(did it before/as it came out), would of been able to shift at 5500rpms again
NA the mtr made 270rwhp peak on dyno at 5200rpm, with stock puter couldnt go past 4900, limited mtr hp & boost to 7psi.
M1, RT+10 cam & Crower 1.7rr were used.
Could go with wrecker fans
5250 for D-1SC polished, sure you can find them cheaper these days (used cut that in 1/2 +rebuild cost)
Expect to rebuild trans with better parts, better clutches/bands, shift kit, deep pan, extra cooler(s) temp gauge

Why would you want to do that, just curious? I thought about it years ago just for the purpose of a bolt on HP, but was not worth the $$. Oh wanted enough power for the dunes but @ the same time use it in the streets.

Have you considered using the truck V10? They are very heavy but you can get them MUCH cheaper than a viper V10, they make decent power stock (310hp 450lbft) and swapping one in would be much easier. I don't know much about building V10's but I bet you can get a lot more power N/A with a V10 than the magnum V8 (not to mention gobs of torque).

Still $500 for an easier to swap motor (could probably get a whole parts truck for less than $2k easy) or $8000 for just the motor with thousands more for the extras. Its not like that 310HP is pushing the limit on the V10 either (as it is on many sixes). From what I have read they take to bolt ons well and with head work and a cam (if available) I bet would make great power, but I am just speculating and its not the same as saying you have a viper V10. I just like cheaper simpler projects as those are much more likely to be completed.
