With proper quench, you might even be able to run 87. The really high octane stuff may, or may not be necessary. Start with 89/91 (whichever is available by you) see how it runs. If you get ping, go up a grade, if you don't, try going down a grade, see what happens.

DO NOT fill the tank with your fuel of choice though, keep the tank fairly low while experimenting, and just put in 10 or 20 bucks worth of gas. When you find the stuff it runs well on, THEN fill it up.

ok glad to hear that.

im going back to the shop friday afternoon to check out the block and drop off the heads, dampener, and flexplate.

the pistons have good sized valve reliefs in them, so if were lucky, .039 quench will work great

im going to call cometic and price some custom gaskets and ask exactly which bore size i need

I used a cheap *** gasket of the correct thickness for clay, and then the good ones for actual assembly.

Or, if you think you might have the clearance..... NO gasket for clay. (this very seldom work though. nine time out of ten, the valve will hit the piston. You don't want that.)

So long as it doesn't interfere with piston, or valve movement. Nope. Just needs to be the right thickness.
