Hi Again. Still having a few small problems with 1998 ram 1500 two wheel drive.I have replaced every sensor.Plugs wires cap rotor etc. Still get random misfire code at times.Sometimes the engine light flashes when I accelerate fairly quickly but steadily.But the biggest problem is half the time the truck runs like a top the other half it seems cold blooded and sounds like all the bearings are spun.I think this is detonation or knocking or something.it does it whenever it feels like it hot or cold.Mostly now as it is getting colder the truck goes through a fussy stage in the morning for about 15 min with the knock and it stumbles etc.I am really not sure what to do next.
Maybe simple as change another fuel filter or who knows?
i am lost and looking for someone who knows more than I do.

have you fixed your plenum yet?

Might be a sensor preparing to go belly up as well. Possibly failing O2 sensor....

 

Won't be O2 if engine is cold. It doesn't even read until a certain engine temp.

When was the last time the truck had a tune up?

 

i changed out my plugs to autolight 3923 and that helped me out and switching to a 180 t-stat will help too

 

Slop in the timing chain? Sticky fuel injectors? Wandering distributor? Those are what I'd look toward, anyway.

 

Heated O2 sensors though, PCM starts paying attention sooner than on the OBDI engines. Exactly WHEN it starts paying attention though..... Not sure on that. Not nearly so much information available on the guys than there is for the GM units.

 

well the best answer so far is sloppy timing or wandering dist. As I already stated changing ALL sensors plugs wires dist. etc. But when it is not acting up it runs perfectly with lots of power and nice and smooth.Also I really don't feel like tearing it down but if it comes to that i guess I will have to.

Where did you get your replacement sensors? The dodge trucks don't take very well to the aftermarket guys....

 

The sensors fixed my stalling problem which was more serious.That was a while ago now I have this problem.Checked wires again today and covered anything near one another with some new wire loom.Will see tomorrow if it helped at all.
