Unhappy Front Axle U-Joint HELP

Yesterday while i was out hunting in the bush and I ran into a huge problem. After slipping off the road and going into about 14 inches of snow i blew my passenger side universal on my front differential, and inturn both yolks on the joint itself. I just really need to know how the yolk on the axle comes off, I can't find any diagrams anywhere, and I cant figure out how it comes off, i would like to know before i start working on it. And if anyone has any suggestions or questions do ask and tell.

The yoke is part of the axle shaft. You need new shafts.

If just the joint blew apart, the outer axle is only held in place by the huge nut on the outboard side. Trouble is, ya gotta pull the hub/bearing assembly to get the axle shafts out.

(starts on page 13)
97 may be slightly different, but you'll get the idea.

Well i completely forgot i had this thread. So we changed out the axle no problem at all, i was so surprised all you have to do is legitimately pull the old axle out and put the new one in. On a crappier note, we found the ball joints were gone on the passenger side the lower ball joint literally had dust in it, so we had to change those.

So after the new axle was in I took it out in the snow and worked the four by for a bit, now i got a grinding noise coming from the front differential when its in 4 hi, i haven't tried 4 lo but id assume it still grind. It goes away when its in 2wd and i changed the front diff fluid when I changed the axle. So anyone have any suggestions before i have to block it up and see if i can find where the noise is coming from.

if it grinds only in 4wd, then its got to be either the t-case, front drive shaft, or cad. [edit - or ring/pinion]. everything else turns in 2wd also.

its probably the cad, and the collar is probably grinding on the inner shaft. pull the cad cover and inspect. you should be able to easily slide the collar back and forth to engage it. if not, that's a problem. also check for strong vac to operate the cad. i find it best to put the truck up on 4 jack stands so you can safely operate it.
