Default 5.2 that doesnt warm up

Hey guys, got a weird question for u... my 5.2 never gets about maybe 150*... upper hose is Luke warm and lower is cold after running the truck for like 50 mins....

This is also a problem because my heat sucks.. the left line is hot going into the heater core, nd the output on the right is cold...

Any ideas on whats wrong?, I just baught a new thermostat, 195* to see if the works?

Install the new thermostat. If you already have, you got a bad one. Once that's in there, get the passenger side front of the truck elevated good, and burp the cooling system. If the heat is still luke warm....... back flush the heater core. (use nasty chemicals if you get a lot of crap out of it...... or, it doesn't wanna flow much.) if that STILL doesn't help with your heat (and the engine actually gets up to temp.....) replace the heater core.

HEYYOU-Can I elevate using the tire jack - is that sufficient? I have a heat issue too. I did open the radiator cap and run the truck until the thermostat opened but I did not elevate the passenage side.

I plan on back flushing the heater core in a week or two. Is CLR a good choice to run into the heater core and let that sit for a while then flush. I plan to pull the heater core line from the water pump on the return side and I have a splice in the "in" side that I can undo to get access.

I wondering if my thermostat is bad now- had replaced it in the summer from 195* to 180*. In the OP case- his truck is not overheating so does this mean the thermostat is stuck open?

Some have had success with using a jack, or even ramps.... Mine seems to be a bit more stubborn than that, and is still not as hot as I think it should be even after parking at a severe pucker-inducing angle on a hillside, and burping the system that way. Give it a shot.

For me, backflushing was most effective. Unfortunately, before I can do that again, temps need to get back above freezing for a day or so......

If your temp isn't getting up to some semblance of what your 'stat is rated for, it probably has indeed failed in the open position.

How much is sticking out? If there is enough, strip off the alt and a/c compressor, and the bracket, so you have some room there...... DROWN them with chemicals, grab 'em with a pair of vice grips, and try and work them back and forth, while tapping on them with a hammer.

If they broke off flush...... or below.... drill and easy out (yeah, right, misnamed tools....) is going to be about your only choice. (still gotta get everything out of the way.....)
