Need Help 96 ram 1500
I have a 1996 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT Laramie 5.9L V8 Magnum sitting on LT285/75/16 with 210000 miles on it now. I bought it like 4 mounths ago and a few weeks ago it started shaking real bad when i started it and while at an idle. I replaced both of the motor mounts, changed out the spark plugs, and the pcv valve, checked the plug wires and they seemed to be sparking just fine. The motor mounts stoped most of the shake but not all of it. A friend of mine told me to unplug the iac and see if it changes anything it did not. I have been told that the plenum gasket can cause a vacuum leak which would cause the shake and the oil that it is using. I am about ready to start doing like the dealership and throw parts at it till it is fixed lol. I was woundering if someone on here can supply me with a compleat list of parts. I mean everything that it has on it. the only parts that i am planning on leaving in it is the pistons and crank, camshaft and my intake after doing the plenum kit. oh and cleaning my throtle body. other then those parts what else would i need top end as well as bottom. looking to do with all oe parts no extras or mods. Just want her to run and have the power she should have.Thank you John

Fix the plenum, and change the cap and rotor. (distributor) Put in a PCV valve from the dealership. (NO aftermarket pcv's please) If that doesn't completely solve the problem, do a compression test.
I have put a new pvc valve. i got it from advance auto part said it is an oe. will not be able to do the plenum till i get my taxes back. lost my job lol. the truck is my way to make money right now. if i keep using it will it cause any other problems? thank you for your help.
Just because the parts store said it was OE doesn't mean it is.
The only real way you can know for sure that its OE is to go to the parts dept. at your dealership.

Non-OE PCV suck in tons of oil since the flow rate is usually higher than it needs to be.

The pcv valve I got from the dealer was quite different than the one I got at the parts store. Different shape, different color, and VASTLY different performance. The dealership units fall within a very narrow range of flow, the aftermarket units do not. Just changing my PCV valved reduced my oil consumption by a quart per WEEK. (the plenum did the rest of the job.)

Well i will have to get another pcv valve when i do the plenum kit. Oh and no the only code that has showed was the the oxygen sincer. sorry for the spelling. it it has been there sence i got the truck.
Depending on which sensor it is will depend on what the truck does.
If its the pre-cat, part of your problem might be there, post-cat, I dunno.
Although, if your post-cat is messed up, your cat itself might be clogged.
Now I'm just thinking out loud...lol

i dont remember which on it is. that is why i am thinking about doing a rebuild because it set for around 2 years and sounds like a lifter is knocking on the passanger side. the po said he had forged lifers put in and that that is why it makes a clicking sound. but i want to be safer then sorry. lol
