problem is design. the entire ac/ heater setup is in one case under dash. the dash parts have to be removed to get it out. if heater core is bad.....replace the ac core too, unless you have an extra 1000 dollars.

i thought breaking the case was stupid, at first, but realized that simply pushing the blend door with my finger saves a thousand dollars.................well, i'll just do it that way until i'm forced to go into it.
only problem is having to adjust it on in between days,,,,,but, hey...i'm cheap (and old too)
I used an angled screwdriver, made for tight spaces, to get the motor out($3.95 at Lowes) and didn't have to cut the floor insulation like I've seen mentioned in other posts.

Looks like you can get some access to other parts by taking off the glove box. But you're right, to get to stuff like the core is a whole different story.

I think somewhere someone had shown using a screwdriver tip in a pair of vice-grips to get into the small clearance. Not sure if you had tried that or not.

That's the rig I have going for now. You can reach under the passenger side dash and twist the axle as long as the ac/heat is set to off (to kill the vacuum). Not too bad. A well trained passenger can even do it.

The heater treater fix is only $25. And it claims to "reset" the motor, so it won't have to be replaced.
