Default Dana 44 gear size

I have a dana 44 and i cant remember if i have 3.73 or 3.92 gears in the front. I was ordering new 4.56 gears to match the back (put in by po so i dont know what the rears were). Is there an easy way to tell what gears were stock to the truck like on the vin or somewhere else so that i dont have to do actually do any physical work to check what i have again? My problem when ordering the gears is that if i have 3.73s the carrier is different then 3.92s so i need to get it right the first time i order.

Go to the dealer, give them your vin, they will be able to print you off a build sheet that will tell you what gears you have.

Here you go

Quote:Ok so i checked out the front and rear gears. It turns out i have 3:92 in the front and 4:56 in the rear. So now my question is do i only need to repace the front ring and pinion to a 4:56 or is there other parts that i have to swap as well. It does have the dana 44 and i am getting the thick r/p so that i dont have to get a new carrier. Is this a job you can do your self or does it require special tools?

If that's the way they break on the dana 44, those are the ones ya want. I would verify that though.... I thought the break was 4.10, and up? I might be hallucinating though.....

Does anyone know if i should use a reverse cut or a standard rotation ring? I have researched it a bit but i dont know if the dana already came with a reverse or is it a standard rotation ring and pinion that comes stock with the dana 44s?
