Default O/D default OFF when starting...

Is there a way to program the truck to have the O/D OFF when starting it? you know, like: put key in ignition and in on position but do not start, press brake five times, honk horn, open and close rear passenger side door while counting teeth with the tip of your tongue ect..

Is there one of those crazy procedures for allowing default OFF of the O/D?

Against my better judgment, I'm going to allow someone to take my truck next week and pull a trailer a good distance over a few days.. I'm thinking, that if the truck starts out with o/d off, I will be much more comfortable than hoping to rely on them remembering to turn it off in an unfamiliar vehicle (to them)..

Why not just press it? If they cant press it, they cant use your truck.

But I'm sure any computer programmer who knows these trucks could do it.

I appreciate the, uh, advice.. Folks who drive a vehicle they are unfamiliar with are prone to forget things.. that is why I will take that out of the equation if I can.. I've already briefed them, but it's a simple oversight that can do a heckuva substantial amount of damage if it is forgotten.

Does anyone have any technical information to add?

thanks..

No way that I know of, aside from reprogramming the PCM to get it to default to off...

Just need to impress upon the driver the importance of this step. Having a gun, and a sharp knife close to hand, and explaining to him in minute detail just exactly what you will do with both should he NOT remember..... is probably going to be about the best you can do.

Drew, aside from the note, I saw a write up on this years (and I mean YEARS) ago. I know it involved a relay or an installation of one. So let me do a bit of digging....

I would LOVE to know if this is possible, I've been wanting this for over a YEAR now! I always turn my OD off, soon as I start it and reach for the shifter. It's purely habit now, I never use the OD until I'm up at cruising speed. I'd love to have the option to set it to OFF by default, and then I can just switch it back into OD when I want it to... Would save a TON of wear and tear on that button haha

And here it is....enjoy.

Note: for different years of trucks the wire colors may vary.

PS...with a few pics, this would be a GREAT technical writeup!
