Default well it has happened!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i have done a good bit of work on my truck and i was just bragging on it last saturday!! my mileage had come up and i was loving my truck like i did when it was new. THEN IT HAPPENED!!!!!!!!!!!!!

last sunday at 2pm (ga time) i was riding down the road with the cruise set at 55 and i heard this noise like i had hit a cat or a loud squeal from the belt. i stopped and nothing seemed wrong. i started to pull off and WHAMMO!!!!!!!!!! it started slipping and jumping in and out of gear then nothing. i put it in park and all is quiet. reverse sounds like 2 cats fighting in the tranny! neuatral is quiet and drive is quiet but slipps extremelly bad. i managed to get the truck back to where i am staying at while i work out of town. i am about 200 miles from home and all my tools and stuff so now the use of a local tranny man is required. i found a guy that most people i talked to say is real good and they would use him again. he works at a local dealer and does trannys on the side at his home shop.

so long story short is the tranny died in my truck, i have taken it to a local mechanic and am waiting for a new tranny.

PRICE?????? well ..............$2200 with a 12/12000 mile warrenty installed and i keep my old tranny! this is a "new tranny". i think it is a reman tranny but it will be new to me. DAM this sucks! but it is a common problem.

so i am ready for the bad news yall have to tell me so give it too me. show me where i am getting ripped off. LOL

Maybe its just me, but, that seems kinda steep...... Granted, you don't get much of a choice in the matter..... How much if he keeps your old one?

the guy said there was no core on the tranny so that is why i keep the old one. junk yards either had no trannys or high maileage trannys for 600-800 bucks. so then the rebuild price quote me was 1200 bucks. no warrenty. my tranny getting rebuilt was not recommended as it may be out of round or warped or damaged inside do to the noises that were heard inside. i am in baxley, ga and have NO INTERNET AND A VERY LIMITED CELLPHONE!! AT&T SUCKS SOMETIMES! 97 is a specific tranny due to the electronics from what i understand. i started to get a viper tranny from PATC but it was 2300+ bucks and then another 500-600 install and i just dont have that. so i will learn to upgrade on my old one if it is good and then i will carry a spare tranny anywhere i go!! LOL

2200 bucks is about average in baxley, ga and surrounding areas.

Sounds like you have already put a fair bit of thought into this, and have done your homework.

In that event, I think you have a good plan. Lemme know when you wanna start rebuilding yours, you need to document that.

Should have called Jasper. 3yr/36000mile warranty, price runs around $1800.

Jasper doesn't exactly have a reputation for quality and durability..... I have had to replace jasper products in less than 100 miles before...... I started looking for a new supplier.... might pay more, but, in this, as in all things, you get what you pay for.

Man!! That sucks for you. But I still think I would have gone with the viper from ptac. at 2300 and install at 4-500 just to be sure that you'll never have a problem again.

I hope everything works out for you.
