Default Not for the squeamish

Well I was at a buddies house and they have a few cats around. I was leaving and got about 50 yards up the road and I hear a big thump. I stopped and heard a cat meowing. I shut the motor off and jumped out and looked under the truck and didn't see the cat but I noticed the fan belt was off. I popped the hood and seen the cat kinda bent inbetween two pulleys. As I was trying to quickly figure out where to grab the cat to get it out it started squirming and fell out to the ground and layer there where I seen that it's arm was messed up pretty bad. I had to run back down the road and get my buddie to come get the cat so I could get my truck out of the road. Now to my question, would the motor be effected if it was still running after the belt comes off(10seconds at the most). BTW the cat has to be put to sleep due to it's injury. And sorry for not paragraphing I am on an Iphone.

Sorry 'bout the cat.

Engine shouldn't have suffered for that short of a time.

Cats--natures little speed bumps

If you throw a cat out of your moving car is it considered kitty litter

sorry about your cat. that's happened to me several times over the years, and the result is usually very bad for the cat. when they're seriously injured, its best to just put them down as quick and humanely as possible.

on a lighter note, as a kid, i had a one-eared cat that was a survivor from my mother's buick...

unlikely there is any accessory damage to pulleys or fans or anything, unless - the radiator is leaking, which you'll notice as soon as it gets hot from the steam leak. the belt pops off quickly when its obstructed and this prevents damage.

absolutely there is no damage to the internals of the motor.

Perfectly fine unless it overheated. That's the only real danger of running with no belt.

Our cat that we have now took a ride under the hood of my old truck when it was about a year old. Took off in a hurry to go to a field about a half mile away, backed up to hook up to a wagon, and I see something in front of the truck. There's the cat, knocked out cold, bleeding from his head. I picked him up thinking he was dead, but he was still breathing.

I put him in the passenger seat, and took him back. It took about 10 minutes for him to come to his senses. He got cut on the side of his head, and still has a scar on his eyelid. Had some burnt fur along his side. He's still running around five years later. He isn't the brightest cat, don't know if that is a result of it or not.
