Question Flexplate rattle?

Can anyone help me diagnose this noise? Broken flexplate or something worse?

Good question. I can't hear it while driving but I've never had anyone put it in gear & rev it a little while I was underneath. Would that be considered enough load to check?

Yep. Just be extremely careful. Don't wanna hear about members getting run over by their own trucks........

Yep. Probably wouldn't hear about it if it happened, though.

It could be a broken flex plate, could be a failed converter, could be a bolt backed out, and it could just be a pebble got in there, too. Pull the inspection cover and have a look. If the bolts are tight and there are no foreign objects in there, have a friend start the engine and rev it, transmission in Park, parking brake set, left foot firmly on the brake -- if the flex plate is cracked you'll get a lot more noise as it revs up, and see the converter move forward.

Usually, a broken flex plate makes enough noise that you'll hear it from inside the cab while driving, especially when accelerating.

There are so many different things that can cause interesting noises under your truck, that it is pretty much impossible to diagnose over the internet..... (posting a video helps.... but, no promises. )
