End-all Be-all plenum thread
I am around 142k. I found out i had switched the 5 and 7 wires, i guess i was in a hurry to put my truck back together. But all is well now! purrs like a kitten! Well ... Like a flowmaster kitten anyways
I believe I need to have this done on my 2002 - 2500. As much as I would like to do this myself I realize my own limitation. The question I have is what would the anticipated cost to have this done? Or how many hours should it take a professional?
Thanks in advance for your input

Is there any reason for the aluminum plenum plates i see on the market having the bosses around the mounting bolts? I speak of the ones highlighted in the photo below

I'm looking at fabbing up a plate as I have some scrap aluminum sitting around that would be perfect for this. I'll be replacing the manifold gasket in the summer, so might as well. I don't see a particular need for the bosses on the plate unless the spanned sections between the bolts are recessed for clearance concerns?

So I did the complete mod this summer, Hughes kit & plate, head gaskets plugs, wires, water pump, thermostat and a few other things I'm forgetting. Runs great, but still consuming 1 &1/2 qts every 2k miles. Any idea now??
i know this thread is dead atm. Im just curious since im doing my plenum this coming week, what were the end results. The thing is i bought this truck with this problem and ive driving it like that for a year, so technically i dont know what my truck drives like at its full potential. Just curious what results you guys had good or bad
I bought my truck with a bad plenum and drove it like that for about a year and a half. Wasn't until the last half year I had it that I started putting money into it, but after I did my plenum I noticed that I no longer went through oil, I no longer had a knock under "hammer down" accelerating, and my MPG went up by about 1.5-2. Also seemed like the truck had more pep in its step, could roast my 33s for days haha, that wis in my 01 1500 Off-Road Edition that I just sold about three weeks ago
After several days of intermittent reading, Ive made it through 90 pages of great information! From plenums to air flow through the crankcase and IM, good read by the way. Awesome tips and tricks to get you through the task.
I would like to know a couple of things before I do mine though. Waiting til it gets warmer...anyways:
1) Does the blown gasket cause enough vacuum leak to keep 4wd from engaging? Noticed also that my door vent does its own thing sometimes. Related?
2) Did anyone have success welding the plate to the intake? It came up a couple times, but no one really clarified.
3) Thought about replacing the stock IM completely with the airgap. Probably wrong thread for this one but what are the other things I should consider buying if I go this route? Pros and con's for replacing the kegger for something else, other than cost.
As I think of more questions or run into problems I'll report back. Also I'll be posting pics of the process as well. Sorry for the long post but as I said it took forever to read every single post and address some links, I got side tracked and had to release some word vomit.

Your 4wd is probably something else. Check all the lines, make sure there are no leaks there. The steel lines that run along the frame like to rust out.
So far as I know, no one has welded one up yet, and driven it any appreciable distance....
If cost isn't a factor, Air Gap would be an excellent solution. No plenum to worry about, better air flow, any other mods you do will yield better results. Move the power band up a bit, but, you can compensate for that with other mods as well.
