Question I Really Need Some Guidance (glasspacks, flowmaster, etc.)

Hey guys, brand new here. I know this might sound like the dumbest question ever, but keep in mind, it's coming from a girl who doesn't have much background on anything mechanical except high school ag classes and mechanics.

I'm wanting my truck to sound louder and/or better for cheap, and I DO NOT want to pay a shop to do it for me. Not picky on quality of sound, I just want LOUD!!!! And something better than stock muffler, which is what I think I currently have on it.

I'm looking around a little at exhaust parts (O'Reileys, Napa, Cherry Bomb, Chux Trux), and I *think* from what I'm seeing, I can cut my exhaust off and attach one of these mufflers, and it's as easy as that?? I know I sound lost lol so I just really need some help and instruction.

Basically, what is the process to do this, and what can I buy to get my truck to sound LOUD, louder than stock, for less than 100$$? Is this possible? I'm on a fixed income, currently in cosmetology school and dishing out alot of cash at the moment. This really is the most I want to spend

You can pick up summit racings house brand cat back exhaust system and it will sound great and add some pep. They are only like 150 bucks for the whole system! Granted they are aluminized steel so depending on where you live you might want to go with staineless steel if they use salt on the road. I live in cali so I don't have to worry about it!

The kits are easy to install and hold up good. No welding required just clamps and hangers. You will need a sawzall! They have step by step instructions that are easy to follow.

also summit's single chamber mufflers are only like 14 bucks. Buy some clamps, cut your muffler off, clamp the muffler on and good to go! (that is the really cheap way)

Thanks for the replies

So..after researching all day. Do you think dumping my exhaust and putting maybe a cherry bomb extreme on would be a good option??

The Thrush glass packs are $27 at Advance. I think the Cherry Bomb glass packs are about $22 at AutoZone. The clamps are only a couple bucks each.
When you cut the pipe you want to cut it off about 4 inches shorter than the glass pack so your pipes won't have to be pulled into it to make them reach.

Want to hear what a 5.2l motor sounds like with a high flow cat (that made it a little bit louder) and a single Thrush glass pack sounds like?

There's nothing wrong with dumping it, just watch where you dump it at. You don't want the exhaust blowing on the paint or the gas tank or anything.
Dumped with a Cherry Bomb extreme is pretty loud.

I'd toss my vote to cutting the muffler and running straights. Like MJ-23 said, that would be pretty cheap and loud! I had straights on my 97 and it sounded pretty good... You can throw some tips on later too if you want it to be deeper

If I cut the muffler and run straights, would straight pipes sound better, or straight cherry glasspacks?

And should I just keep it as is and do one straight pipe/pack, or attach a Y fitting and run two? Thanks for the help boys, and sorry for all the questions

I cut my stock exhaust off just before the stock muffler inlet...and replaced it with a Dynomax Race Bullet from Amazon.com for $37 shipped...here is how she sounds now...no backfiring, popping or crackeling either, no drone...just loud, deep tone...I was gonna put a turn down on it, but I changed my mind on the turndown.

You cut the factory muffler out and have a y put in and have the 2 pipes dumped over the axle. I've heard that setup before and it sounds good. But I'm biased, I love straights.

This is what i did to mine last week, pipes cost $30 and well you will get a better price on mufflers than me, took about 1.5 to install and sounds great way better than the dual glass pacs i had on it.
