As long as they are both 4wd or 2wd it's no problem.

There might be some minor wiring differences. Should probably look at pinouts for the connectors on both transmission, and make sure they are compatible. Other alternative would be, to put all new 96 sensors, etc, into the trans before installation.

96 , 99 swap should be no problem. Sensors are different in 2000.

I have encountered a problem. The 99 tranny doesnt have the speedo cable like the 96 does. the 96 is located in the back of the tranny and is electrical gearing with a 3 pin connector. the 99 tranny doesnt have a hole for it or anything.?.?.?Any help would be appreciated.

Oh and im switching the bed and all the goodies from the 99 over too, probably gonna paint it. ill post pictures after

I think you can just swap the tailshafts. If you still have the old tranny, take that one off first for practice so to speak.

Yes you can swap the tailshafts, but check the integrety of the o/d unit that is housed in the tail shaft. If you old unit lost overdrive, swapping the tail shaft (o/d unit) would just be counter intuitive.

If your feeling froggy you can take apart both units and swap the parts around. Or take both o/d units off of the main unit and see if a trans shop is slow and if they can swap it around for you. There is a special tool you need to take apart and reassemble the o/d unit.
