That doesn't look like the picture of the seal in the diagram here. Wonder if you are correct, they didn't have the right seal, so used those instead....

Kinda what I was thinkin'. Im pretty sure the correct seal is the on in my kit with the flared flange. People trip me out. I bet it was shimmed all jacked up. I'm suprised the seal closest to the inside didn't get binded and melted.

Your correct. One goes on the oil pump, if I'm not mistaken.
Rocky mt: The seal that I used on my rebuild had a lip around it. However, I rebuilt an RE 2wd not a 4wd. Also, keep in mind that the rebuild kit you got is a universal set for re and rh tranny's bot 2wd and 4 wd. So you'll have some extra parts laying around after you'r all done.

A quick tip: put some trans lube on the back of that seal so that when you hit it in, the spring on the back end won't come off. Also, when you do the sonnax kit, put some lube on the check ***** so that they don't get lost. Let it sit in a small dab of lube.
One last thing. Check the sonnax site for instructions on how to install the kit. I know that the kit comes with instructions, but my instructions differed from what was online. Turns out, they messed up.

I hope I helped some. Let me know if you need any more help. I remember when I was building mine. MonteC helped me so much, I feel somewhat responsible to pay it forward. I also probably owe him a case of beer for the help.

Default Scratched drum and rear seal

If it was mine, I would replace the drum. Had similar issue on Direct Drum and ordered replacement. Also, I installed rear seal with boot. It has two sealing areas and the boot keep dirt farther away to minimize risk of getting into tranny. That is probably what someone was doing installing two seals.

Traveling again this week - no time to work on Ram.....hate it when that happens.

I would have replaced the drum, but it still turns true and no bands ride on it so...its gonna be reused. I installed the seal that looked identical to the two I removed and got the O/D assembly installed into the case. Now I just have my upper frictions soaking. Found some bushings in the main case sun gear drum that are worn to hell and I can't seem to get WIT's website to work. If anyone else is having this problem please let me know. I don't wanna send their webmaster an email if its my connection. So I'm pretty much done with everything I can accomplish at this point as I need to order a few more things and wait for those items already ordered to get here UPS. Does anyone know of another parts blowup like WIT's?
