Default Transfer case saver install tomorrow

So I'm installing the transfer case saver tomorrow. I www quite disappointed in paying $50 for that little piece of metal but if it saves me a transfer case then it's worth it. But what would you replace while you're down there? And is there a good install thread or video anywhere? I couldn't find any. Thanks!

Installation is actually rather easy. Drop the drive shaft, pull the extension housing (four bolts), take off the snap ring, if its still there, install the t-case saver, and put it all back together. Shouldn't take more than an hour. Check the u-joints in the shaft while you have it out. If they feel good, leave 'em in there.

I ordered a saver last week and going to install it next month or so. Did you have to use special pliers to get the snap ring off? Is there any RTV used on the housing after you installed it? Lastly did you use the loctite they provided with the saver? For the OP take lots of pictures to help us that are going to install this little bugger in the future.

Snap ring pliers...... They aren't absolutely required, but, sure makes the job easier.

RTV on the sealing surface is a good idea. (I don't recall if there is a gasket there you can replace or not....)

If they provide the loctite, that implies they want you to use it. I would assume that would be for the bolts that hold the 'saver' in place....

(No, I haven't done this yet. Not sure it is as much of an issue on the 241 t-case that I have.)

do use the loctite on the set screw to prevent it from vibrating loose.

if the rear seal around the drive shaft is dripping and/or slinging oil on the underside of the truck, this is a good time to replace it. use a good National brand seal from advance auto or other.

What does the snap ring look like? Is it rather small? Or do you have a picture? I took a picture of my tc but I'm waiting for it to upload because I took it on my phone

Basically its just a round "clip", with two holes in the end for the pliers to go into. This site has some nice pics right at the top.
