What, not getting it all over me? Why not, old fluid out, new fluid in. Pretty simple process. No need to pull cover that I can think of.. I'm not having any probs with it. Hardly drive it, 107k miles.

 

I like to pull the cover to see what kind of nastyness has accumulated at the bottom of the pig..... sometimes you get a rude surprise. But, better on a rack, or jackstands, than while driving....... I like to clean it out with brake cleaner as well. Of course, take a shower, and change your clothes before you go out in public......

 

I pull the cover to check the magnet in the bottom of the pumpkin. Had I not, I'd have never known the factory LSD grenaded at 60,000 miles.

 

Sucking it out is fine, but generally its best to take the cover off to inspect everything like the teeth for wear or odd metal peices on the bottom.

I wouldnt fret about it tho, i sucked the fluid on both of my Jeeps cause i was lazy

 

No LSD, well if u guys think it bes,t, ill pull covers next time and inspect. No noise from it or anything, just figured new fluid would be good. How often u change it?

 

if you drive in deep water, its a good idea to drain and inspect it soon afterwards to be sure you don't have any water in the diff.

once you done this at least once, maybe twice, to confidently know you're water tight, then every 25,000, or every year or two is plenty.

i've got a buddy that did a lot of deep water driving and never bothered to check it, and got a bunch of water in it - combined with a lot of long distance towing. being a d80, it was a very expensive rebuild.

Got the truck from my dad who bought it new. Pretty light usage. I put it to work tho, and that's why I'm trying to take care things. No water, but haul camp trailer and a couple atvs. and use for winter driving.

 

Dont overlook Advance Auto Parts ATF+4 either...the company I work for (Amalie Oil Company) blends and packages their motor oils and ATF's...the ATF+4 in their bottles is bought from Ashland (Valvoline) in bulk, brought to our plant via railcar, and packaged into a bottle with an Advance Auto Parts label on it.

 

Good to know. I don't think we have one of those here in Utah. And autozone is around the corner.
