How can I tell if the master cylinder is bad?

Does your current slave have a bleeder?

There is no bleeder on the slave. The pushrod on the master cylinder is pretty easy to push in.

I'm just trying to look at the color of my clutch fluid to see if it might be bad.
It looks like it's black for the top 3/4 of the reservoir and light brown at the bottom 1/4 (looking from the outside)

Can I just take the cap off, take a look at it, then screw it back on?
Or will that let in air/will I have to bleed it?

My clutch seems too easy to push down, but then again I've only driven one m/t vehicle so I can't compare. It shifts fine.... just trying to do some preventative maintenance.

You can take the cap off without causing any problems. Not surprising the fluid is a bit discolored though, consider how long it has prolly been in there.

Ok thanks. Just checked and realized the dipstick (or whatever is connected to the cap) was what made it look like it was black. The fluid level and color both checked out good. I'm guessing it must of been changed right before I bought it.
