please guys keep givin me input im 18 and dont have the most experience here. gotta be able to get to work reliably. what would be making the transmission and 1st piece of the driveshaft shake when i removed the rear section and put it in drive in the driveway? its so bad you just have to look under the truck to see it happen. kinda scary not to mention

You say you took out the rear drive shaft, how did the Universals look? Did you just recently change those?

If you put the transfer case in neutral does the vibration stop?

Hopefully someone will correct this, but I seem to remember something about drive line vibrations, and rotated drive shafts.. meaning, the drive shaft got put back on 180 degrees from where it was previously and it causing some vibrations at certain speeds.

But you said you just did the universal at the transfer yoke, so it probably wouldn't have rotated any if you just did one at a time.

You said you felt the vibrations with the shaft disconnected right?

Put it in 4wd, and you will have a front wheel drive truck.

Driveshaft installation doesn't matter which way it goes, on a one piece driveshaft, there is no "wrong" way. (aside from backwards, but, that won't work anyway) On a multi-part driveshaft, all the u-joints MUST be aligned, such that the stationary parts on the shaft are all in a nice row, otherwise, you do indeed get some weird vibrations. That would be a constant thing though, it wouldn't just show up one day.....
