Driveshaft installation doesn't matter which way it goes, on a one piece driveshaft, there is no "wrong" way. (aside from backwards, but, that won't work anyway) On a multi-part driveshaft, all the u-joints MUST be aligned, such that the stationary parts on the shaft are all in a nice row, otherwise, you do indeed get some weird vibrations. That would be a constant thing though, it wouldn't just show up one day.....
I had a buddy once that had a put in his one piece 180 and it caused some vibration. The shaft was out of round. The only thing I could think of was that as it aged, everything else in the drive line compensated for it being out round. He flipped it back 180 and it helped although there was still a slight vibration.

Welp I give. I would try putting the transfer in neutral and revving it to the same RPM that the vibration was noticed in. Should tell you if its before the transfer case.

That is why it vibrated. Doesn't have anything to do with orientation of installation. Have a very close look at just what's going on there. (as you probably already have......) The shaft can't tell which way is which, nor does it care. Any change in behavior your buddy observed was much more likely due to installation. I have never paid any attention to which way the shaft came out. (unless it was two piece, and then I just made sure things were aligned properly on the shafts.)

Right, no I don't disagree that orientation doesn't matter but in his instance, orientation made a difference it was like going from a noticeable drive line wobble to more of a bad hub bearing wobble.

...or so he says.. fwiw, ymmv etc. etc.

If the service manual does not really help you much, you should take the truck to a shop.
