Default ignition issues, need thoughts and ideas!

ok so after a conversation with hey you, we figured out my cranking problems are due to something in the ignition system. if the coil is un plugged the motor will crank forever like a champ. if the coil is plugged in it will crank a couple maybe 3 times and it sounds like the battery is dying or there are cylinders firing against each other. the battery is new and good, i agree it seems the cylinders are firing in the wrong order, but i am positive the firing order is correct and i just went through and did the proper tsb wiring and it still does the same thing. what else could cause the cylinders to be firing wrong?

I think you need to try unscrewing the o2 sensor.

I'd put my money on a failing cam position sensor. Could be the crank position sensor, also, but I'd lean toward the cam sensor.

Where is the number one Post on the dist cap situated? It should be toward the front of the engine, trending toward the passenger side...... Is it? (if you were laying on the engine from the front, looking at the dist, number on should be at 7:00 o'clock, or so.)
