Default 01 5.9 no signals to coil Help

I have been reading the other posts but have not been able to find enough data to solve this so here I am.
01 Ram 1500 5.9 no start.
Coil has no negative input at any time, Also positive coil wire only has power when key first on and fuel pump running! after fuel pump times out the positive is dropped. It does not return during cranking or with key in run position. Any help would be really appreciated! Thanks for your time!
Also If I jump the 3 and 5 pins at ASD relay I can get positive at coil but with no switching negative at coil It still would not run. Seems strange to me to not have either one at coil! Help if you can please! Thanks again.

Welcome to DF!

That's how its supposed to work. Well, ok, for the most part. Sounds a lot like a failed crank sensor though. Coil will have power for about three seconds at initial key-on. Then, ASD relay cuts out. (which is where injectors, and coil get power from) PCM will re-engage the ASD relay as soon as it sees the engine turning, either via cam, or crank sensor. Doesn't sound like yours is doing that.

I'm going to go with crank sensor first and cam sensor second. Did you have any kind of symptoms before it wouldn't start at all? And have you verified fuel pressure with a gauge? Just because you hear it running, does not mean it's actually pumping fuel.

+1, for a total of three, on the crank sensor being the prime suspect. I'd just haul it right out of there and do a simple test on it; put ohmmeter probes between any two terminals, and if you get infinite resistance between any two pins, that's a good indication that it's faulty. If you don't know where it's located, it's way in the back on the passenger's side/top of the engine where it meets the tranny. Held on by two 1/4" allen head bolts that are easiest to get out with an allen wrench or socket that has a ball-type end. Then just undo the connector and take it right out.

Sounds logical, I'm on the way to pick up the Crank sensor now! I have read and heard those are no fun to install!
I'll update as soon as it's in!
Thanks for the help!

+1 and +1 on what they said. Did you get any CEL lately? Can you check for stored codes? Most of these threads related to cks and cps indicate rough running, misfires, etc before it just fails.

If you haven't left yet, Napa/Echlin should be the same as Standard, which is their parent company.

"I have read and heard those are no fun to install!"

Once again, I don't understand what the big deal is about how hard it is to get to the distributor and the crank sensor; on my van, it's as easy as pie.

You should volunteer to replace a crank or cam sensor on a friends or some one you meet locally with the same problem that has a Ram. You'll feel the same pain that a Ram owner knows.

Yeah, well if you'd ever been a Red Sox fan, then you'd know the pain that I know, so we're even, pal
