Have you noticed if your truck is using excess amounts of oil?

Yes, it does go through the oil; and i do beleave it is an excessive amount of oil. It goes through just about a case (12pk) of oil between oil changes.

wtf!??!?! how long are your oil change intervals? At that rate, you would not even need to change your oil.

I am thinking your drain plug fell off!!!

sounds like a continuous oil change going on.

with it drinking that much oil and sucking that much air, that's probably why premium gas is not helping to reduce your pinging. its too big of a leak.

you can get a Hughes-type luminum plate on ebay for not much money. seems like it was about $50, but i can't find the listing. anyone know where it was?

zman! I am shocked - you left out the cat and O2 issue - so I will pitch hit for you (a little baseball humor, appropriate especially this time of year)

Since plenum is blown (assumption on my part and appearantly shared by others), your cat is not far behind as well as O2 sensor. Check plenum thread for more infor. The excess oil through the exhaust system tends to clog the cat, and shops will glady replace cat and NOT tell you what caused it (if they even know?).

If any of you guys own any stock in oil, sell it before this guy can buy a drain plug and a plenum gasket.. demand will likely sharply decline...

Since I bought my Ram, I have talked to numerous other people in town that own Dodge Rams. (but neither did I before joining this forum) Absolutely none of them knew anything about the plenum, other than 2 of them had the dealer "fix something" when it was consuming too much oil. Both of them had cat failures within a year, and did not know it was realted.

Moral of the story - I am betting that even if one more reduces his oil consumption, the net gain loss would = 1 happier Ram owner / no neglible effect on dependency on Saudi oil......so investent in oil futures is probably relatively secure.....
