Funny squeaking/wobbling noise when driving...
I noticed in the past few days...there is a funny squeaking/wobbling noise that sounds like it is just outside the firewall somewhere (I could be wrong), when I am at lower RPM/lower speed. Kinda like a medium pitched "whoop whoop whoop" every second or so off and on.
I can somewhat feel the vibration of the noise on the steering column sometimes. This ONLY OCCURS when the truck is in gear and also in motion. I tried shifting into neutral at approx. 20-30 mph and the sound stopped. Once I shifted into drive the sound started again. The noise is either faster, softer, or less audible at higher speeds (excess of 40 mph) and seems to be more deliberate at lower speeds.
The sound is not there always, but probably 50% of the time I am driving. It started maybe a week ago, and has gotten a bit louder/more frequent in the past two days.
Any ideas? I really don't know where to start since I can't listen for it or check for it unless the truck is rolling, and in drive.

i think the 01 2wd uses the same unit-bearing setup as the 4wd.
so grab the top of the tire and push/pull in and out with all your might. there should be no movement.

I have the same noise and it's been there for years. It sounds like I'm smuggling pigeons in front of the dash.
I can only hear mine below about 10mph and after a drive while the truck is stopped as long as it's in gear but only for a few seconds.
Motor mounts is my guess but I haven't gotten around to checking them out.
