that sounds like a bad connection at the back of the cluster

I agree but it's a fixed connection isn't it? What I mean is there is no way to tighten the connection from what I saw when I had the cluster out of the dash

The best thing to do now if you didn't have this problem before, is remove all the sensor connectors and see if the cluster comes back. If it doesn't it maybe the PCM. Also unplug the connector going to the valve body too.

That's the thing it comes back on by itself. Sometimes it's after 2 seconds sometimes it's 30 seconds. It's so frustrating and annoying!

The only code it throws is something like 1687 which is a no bus code.

Do any of your gauges work?

They all work then the cluster dings and the speedo dies and abs, brake, check engine, airbag lights all come on then sometimes it goes right back to working with no lights but other times after the lights come on All of the gauges die. Then it will fix itself. All of this can happen over 3 seconds or as long as 30 seconds.

I wonder if the timing of this particular failure is simply coincidence? What you describe is an intermittent fault. Either a loose connection somewhere, or, a failure in the cluster itself. (or the CTM for that matter.)

OK now I have a new system. I have been having a surging problem when idling. I thought it was the plenum. Well I go to leave for work today and the dam thing won't idle! It starts and dies when the rpm try to drop to idle speed. It will run if I give it gas but once I let off the throttle it dies. Iac or cps maybe?

Check the IAC passages, make sure they aren't all gummed up. Clean the TB if they look crappy.

Check TPS, makes sure it is doing the right tricks. Could try resetting the PCM, and see if it makes any difference.

Is the tps test in the diy section? I cleaned the tb a couple months ago so I will pull the iac and reset the pcm then check to see if it moves. Will a bad iac cause a no bus problem?

Could this be related to a pinched cps wire? I ask because it started when I had the tranny rebuilt (the gauges dying I mean)
