Default 96 Dodge Ram wont shift from 2H to 4H

It will shift from 2H to 4L, and 4L to 4H, but not 2H to 4H. Thanks.

Erm, what isn't happening? The shift pattern is 2H, 4H, N, 4L... If you pull the stick back one notch, T-case should be engaged. Is it just the 4x4 lite isn't coming on?

No, the 4x4 light is coming on - its just its not in 4 wheel drive.

How are you determining that?

And by the way, Welcome to DF.

Well I tried turning on pavement after it didn't feel like they were griping in the dirt, and it turned just like 2 wheel drive. And then I went from 2H to 4L and it worked, then went from 4L to 4H and it was still 4wd, and I heard it shift - I don't even hear it changing from 2H to 4H.

Thanks!

Put it on jack stands and test it out, its a whole lot easier than gunning it in mud (but the second option is more fun if you got someone to pull you out )

are your driveshafts turning when it has this issue? if so, get rid of that garbage factory vacuum CAD and get a cable operated one.

The factory vacuum system is fine for a normally driven vehicle. I had the Posi-Lok on my 98. Just one more thing to do. (and not forget to undo). Fixing the vac setup is rather easy. http://www.dodgeram.org/tech/repair/..._engagment.htm
