4wd shift shoes on fork anybody ever?

you should be able to cobble up something.
see if you can manually slide the collar toward the drivers side to engage it, then wrap something around the passenger side axle half to lock the collar into place. maybe a big plastic collar and some zip-ties.
then leave the cad off and just bolt a cover plate over the cad opening. that will keep the fork out of the way.

Oh..the fork is forked....I'd try to wrap a hose clamp around the axles and crank 'em down.
