Default should i spool it

so i was reading randy's ring and pinion website... and they make spools for our trucks i have 60 in the rear..

they say the spool shouldn't be used on street driving trucks... i know when you have lockers it chews up your tires is that the say reason why they say that about the spools or could i cause some major damage to my rear if i spool it and still drive it on the street

At least a locker has the ability to unlock...... a spool on the street would be really bad for your tires, and would be rather hard on all the rest of the differential parts. Spend the money for a good locker.

when driving on the street the rear tires need to 'differentiate' or turn at different speeds in order to go around curves. a locker will unlock automatically under turning stress to allow this. a locker won't overly wear out the tires. (it does a little but not a lot).

a spool stays locked all the time, which forces one of two things to happen - either the inside tire spins and hops and jumps, or worse - in wet weather the tires break loose and you spin out and end up in the ditch.

do not put a spool in a street driven truck.

There are some Detroit Locker's for the Chrysler 9.25 rear end, cost form SummitRacing is just over $600, plus shipping.

Parts for Dana 60's are the easiest to come by, and there is a bigger market for them then anything else, due to their popularity. Detroit might be even cheaper for it then a 9.25.

My bad biggreen, apparently I wasn't paying attention. $609.95 for the Dana 60.
