These trucks dont have factory front lsd's. I had mine rebuilt when the gears were installed and it acts great. Sometimes it seems like a locker cause ive been flexed out on a drop off with one tire off the ground spinning and the other still pulling too. I think its just hit and miss with your luck with them.

I would be real interested to see that. To my knowledge, dodge never offered an LSD on the front axle in the second gens.

This is my daily driver/pavement pounder/tow vehicle. With snowy and ice conditions in michigan i'm thinking a lunch box or true locker would not be the best choice. I was just wondering if a limited slip unit factory model would be worth while for $286 new or if i could find a cheap used one. I can see where the gear unit limited slips like the Auburn or Detroit would be solid units, but they are double the price. So the factory units with the clutch packs wear out that quickly, that i should just look past them?
Ok, then I understood you as intended. Indeed the cost of the better LSDs is a factor. I figured you were going for an upgrade nonetheless, but if the budget is tight then I'd recommend a NEW factory LSD installed with warranty (at best).

I want to clarify that even though the LSDs in these go out relatively easy, they are still pretty good given your driving methods. From what I gather, and my own experience, doing donuts is just not a great thing for those clips.

To give you an idea, my original lasted up until 2008. Replaced it in kind at the time...and still just fine. Mostly pavement DD, winter snow in the Tahoe area, and now some offroad trails (but really darn slow and careful).

I'm not of the camp that the factory LSDs are pure crap. They were as intended and keeping driving techniques in mind.

The issue is the clutch packs burn up fast.... I had mine rebuilt last year and it works great too....
keep in mind there was two different styles made in the 90's...one is supposed to hold up better than the other but I dont know which is which.
