Check all plug wires and grounds. Might try looking around with it running (be carefull) at night to see if you see any arching from the plug wires.

I was thinking that maybe a wire got knocked loose somehow when you were working on it and the "ticking" was arching.

Did you unhook or remove anything to do the stat? If so, double check everything you touched. Make sure it's all tight, clipped, snapped, etc.

Check the connections for the TPS (driver side of TB) and IAC (rear). Make sure they're plugged in and making contact. Try wiggling them around a bit, see if that helps. Might have bumped one or both and lost connection between harness and sensor.
