sorry to hear about the carnage.

but moving on - are you going to install the engine yourself, or have it done.
if you're going to have it done, i'd recommend purchasing the engine and the install from one single place, with warranty of parts and labor for 24-36k miles. otherwise, you get in a pickle between engine vs labor. anybody's engine will last 12k miles, its 24-36 that separates the men from the boys.

Soory about the engine craatering on you. Has to be tough.

While you have it down, if you have not experienced any tranny issues, you don't have to do a rebuild if you are not having any issues with it. You can do a few less costly things to make it last.

1. Drain fluid and toss.
2. Replace governor and pressure sensor with GM style - ebay or www.wittrans.com.
3. Delete check valve on tranny (thread in DIY section)
4. Replace torque converter.
5. Install Sonnax Sure Cure Kit in valve body.
6. Check band adjustment.
7. Install externall cooler.
8. Install deep tranny pan to increase volume (keep cooler)
9. Install trans temp sensor.
10. Refill tranny on installation with ATF+4 fluid ONLY! No additives!

This will help extend the life of transmission and not cost as much as a rebuild.

I know a guy locally. I talked to him this evening and said he gets his motors from a place in Texas, don't remember the name. Said they're remanufactured but everything is new internally. Everything is on it externally too except intake and fuel rail. Plugs are even installed. Now I don't know what brand or quality of parts but guy said they are excellent motors and come with 3 yr unlimited mileage warranty.

He owns a shop and said to pull the old, install new and get it running would run me $800. I figured if everything was already on it I could rent a picker and do it for cheap. I've pulled my mustang motor and reinstall, wasn't bad. Depends on the motor price tag!

Thanks I'll definitely look into all this. The only issue I have, which prob isn't an issue, is the quick shift into overdrive. Seems like its too soon but I was hoping it was the 35" tires throwing it off. Read you should have 4.56 or somethin like that with those tires. I have the stock 4.10 since its offroad sport.

The Sonnax Sure Cure Kit, governor, and pressure sensor will resolve any shift issues. (purple box)

Plumb an oil-type filter into your cooler lines. It is MUCH more efficient at trapping the smaller stuff in the fluid, acts as a check valve of sorts (that gets changed regularly....) increases the amount of fluid in the system. (more consistent temps.) It really is a good plan.
