Default Trans groaning when temps are cold..

My trans makes a "groaning" noise when put in reverse when cold out and during winter.
After it is at operating temp, it is fine. It shifts fine.

In the summer it does not make this noise.

Any insight on this? 2001 Ram Off Road with 4 speed auto.

Thanks

Mine does it as well. I have a theory it's actually the drive shaft or the transfer case binding and not the actual transmission though. I could be wrong however.

More than likely has to do with fluid flow characteristics when it is cold. If everything works as it should, don't worry about it.

I was thinking along those lines. Maybe the check valve.

What about checking the fluid level? Don't these really appeal to atf+4?

Thanks for replies. Yeah the fluid level is up to par and not burnt. Still has red to the fluid color,
I will probably take it in to trans shop my friend works at.
He said about 80 bucks they will dump fluid, change filter and adjust bands.

Probably would not hurt.
