Default 14x3 question

Today I got the stuff to do a 14x3 and my dad said I didn't need a breather because the base had a place for the hose/tube that comes from the valve cover. Will using that be fine? Its not going to spew oil into the intake or anything right?

It hadn't better..... the hose going to the air filter housing is supposed to be the INTAKE side of PCV. (where it gets the air going INTO the crank case.) If you are getting oil blowing back out that hose, you have some serious issues.

Use a breather like in the DIY.

Eventually when I pick up a high flow filter I'll get one like in the DIY, but it should be fine for now right?

What HeyYou said. The air flow in that hose is through the filter, down the hose, into the valve cover. So if you get oil going uphill and upstream, you've got a serious problem. So it'll be okay for now, and okay for the life of the truck, too.

If you want to get a cute little breather as engine dress-up, well shucks, go for it. Otherwise, it's unnecessary.

They do look a whole lot better, especially when I get a blue filter and a blue breather to match the paint.

Although I personally don't like the 14X3 setup(not meaning looks). Looks are the reason I suggested it.
