Default Reverse lights

So my reverse lights don't work when the truck is idling. They start working when you rev the motor, the higher the rpm the brighter they get til theyre completely lit up at about 3000.

What could this be?

Check the grounds for the backup lights. Also check the neutral safety switch on the trans, I think that does reverse lights as well.

+1 on grounds and neutral safety switch does control the lights, but rpm should not be effected by switch.

When you rev the engine the alternator spins faster and causes more power to go through the truck. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Yeah that does make sense, I've just never really noticed it on any other vehicle.

true but really unnoticeable unless you pay very close attention to it. its like those cars where the radio volume goes up as the car picks up speed.
