Default HELP!!! Back up light issue!

Hey guys. Sorry if there is a thread out there already about this. I couldn't find one related. My back up light won't go off. My wife son and I went to leave tonight, went into the garage and the back up lights were on in my truck. I started it up, put it in drive still on. I slammed the shift lever into park, wouldn't go out. I pulled the fuse for the back up lights, still on. Anyone experience this issue before? What should I do? Please help and thank you in advance!

Are you sure you pulled the right fuse? Try pulling the relay maybe

Yeah I'm sure I pulled the right fuse. I double and triple checked. Not sure which one under the hood the relay is cause the cover is missing and no manual. I bought the truck used. It is a 01 1500 4x4 5.2 with 46re tranny.

Somewhere you have a short to power if you pulled the correct fuse. Follow the wires from the reverse lights and find where they are wore into a wire that has a 12v source. Repair wires in that place. Should have reverse lights only in reverse.

Supposedly, Reverse lights are on fuse 7 in the fuse block in the side of the dash.

If thats the fuse you pulled, do you by any chance have a trailer harness?

a key point is the switch on the side of the transmission. called neutral-safety switch on an auto, or backup light switch on a manual. not sure but i think this is switched power rather than always hot. drivers side up near the front where the linkage is.

there's also a fuse in the end of the dash.

you can pull the tail light for easy access to the wiring and socket for probing power.

GTX: Being a short is hard for me to wrap my head around. Do to the fact this is something that just happened tonight and was never intermittent problem. Though could still be. Thank you.

HeyYou: It was the fuse I pulled. I do have a trailer harness. It is factory

Vaughan: I was thinking the Neutral Safety Switch. I'll have to unplug it and see if the lights go out. Thanks

Well guys. I checked the switch. NO results. Checked for chafed wires and nothing. Don't know where to in from here. Any other thoughts?

Okay. So we are getting somewhere now. All I need is a picture and map of the fuse panel under the hood. I found a breaker that was supplying juice to the reverse lights. Now I just need to figure out what it actually goes too. I don't have the cover or the manual to this truck. Both were MIA when I bought the truck.
