Default Replacing A/C Compressor

Hey Guys,

I have a question for y'all i am about to replace my A/C Compressor and was wondering if i needed to re-vacuum the system or do i just need to recharge the system

Yes, it will need to be evacuated. Trying to charge a sytem without vacuum will not allow sufficient refrigerant in system. Volume and pressure thing.

ok where can i found out how to do that? Doesn't really sound hard just never done before.

Just need a vacuum pump, and a gauge. Kinda specialized equipment.... chat with some of the shops around you, and see if one will just pull a vacuum on it for you, once you have it all reassembled.

oh ok sounds good ill try that what would you say that would be a reasonable price for them to pull a vacuum and recharge

Vacuum AND recharge? Hundred bucks or so. Refrigerant ain't cheap.....

If you get the stuff from wal-mart, it has refrigerant, and the oil in a can with a gauge. I think the cans run 30 to 40 bucks though, and you may need more than one....

Either have the shop suck it out, or, vent it to atmosphere.......... If you elect to go this route, be advised, it's under pretty good pressure, and will come out EXTREMELY cold, frostbite is a real possibility if done wrong.
