A $3000 code reader should pull a PO code , not a 36 code. A 36 is like OBD1. I'm sure you have , but have you tried the key tick?

It was a $3000 dealio, not code reader. That's all a dealio will get!

This is one of the reasons that I bought a Snap On MTG 2500. Reads tons of data that I didn't even know was readable. Too bad most of my vehicle predate even OBDI!

Get the ESP module for your snappy scanner. All you have to do is get close, and it gives you data. Of course, it's a 20,000 dollar module........

Unfortunately ABS codes have to be read by an ABS scanner or an OBDII scanner that specifies ABS compatibility. Some ABS codes can only be cleared by ABS scanners, unhooking the battery will not work. I once let a truck set for 4 days trying to clear one. Best bet is to take it to a garage to get it cleared or buy a ABS only scanner for under $100. Either way, your probably gonna have to pay to clear the code.

yeah it was an all in one scanner that had an abs option, it threw the code 36 with the above error. he also was able to clear it out within the abs options

The ABS module may be bad. But I'd download the 01 FSM and start tracing wires.
