Default Troubleshooting Help on Gas 2500 4x4 Transmission

I picked up a 2000 2500 yesterday and the transmission doesn't seem to shift out at all. It seemed like it took a while to get it rolling when i test drove it but the only thing i had to judge it on was my 99 2wd. Just figured it took the 5.9 a little more to get the heavy truck rolling.

On the way home i noticed that it hits around 3300 rpms @ 60 mph. I ran it by autozone to have some codes read and 2 where on the trans. One was something on a relay.

I'm going to stop back by and get a print out of exactly what the codes were but has anyone else had this problem? I can't tell if its stuck in overdrive or not going in to overdrive. But i'm pretty sure its only staying in one gear. What rpms should it be hitting @ 60 in OD?

Thanks for the help...

Your trans is in limp mode. Staying in second gear.

At 60 mph, I an turning about 1500 RPM in O/D, with tcc locked.

No, just means that something is pissing it off, and it doesn't wanna work right.

Under the hood, right behind the battery, is the PDC, (power distribution center), pull the cover, identify the trans relay, and swap it with the horn relay. Might wanna disconnect the battery for a few minutes to clear the codes. Then, take it for a ride, and see what, if any, codes come back, and if the trans doesn't wanna shift a little nicer. (at all....)

Will do...thanks for the help.

For discussions sake...I see you have pretty much the same truck. How many MPG's should i expect out of this thing. My 2wd gets 14 on a good day. I'm expecting single digits...

I get 10 to 12 around town, and 14-17 on the e-way. I have done a fair bit of work to the truck to bring it back into good running condition though.....

That's not bad at all. It supposedly has a fresh engine so i might be lucky and get close. The stock exhaust will probably help out alot. I can't help but letting my 360 sing in the 2wd.

The biggest restriction in the exhaust on these, is where the two pipes from the manifolds hit the cat converter. Do something about the restriction there, and the probably clogged cat...... and you can open up some good power.

Pull the tranny pan and see whats in it. While it's off, install a drain plug and replace the Governor Solenoid with these.
